With smart control of your heat pump, an average of 230 kWh per house per year can be saved. For a Zero-on-the-Meter home, this means that on average 230 kWh per house per year more solar energy can be shared with the neighborhood and with the energy grid. That sounds good right! But how does it work?

Your heat pump prepares hot water in a fixed cycle without smart control. So even if you do not use hot water, the water in the boiler is heated. The water gradually cools down. When the temperature of the water falls below a certain value, the water is fully heated again.

Also with smart control, hot water is always available for use, but less than with the fixed heating cycle. The water in the boiler is not fully heated until, based on energy data, hot water is expected to be used. Of course, this does not mean that you have cold water if you want to take a hot shower at a different time than you normally do. The goal is to provide the same comfort with less energy.
